Alice L.
Armagost
July 2, 1929 – March 30, 2026
PLATTSBURGH – Alice L. Armagost, 96, of Irish Settlement Road, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026, at Meadowbrook Healthcare.
Born on July 2, 1929, in Saverne, Bas Rhin, France, Alice was the daughter and only child of Victor and Lucie (Faessel) Amsinger. She was attending a Catholic school when WWII broke out and France became German occupied. She and others were forced to speak German and conform to German ways or face severe consequences. After the war ended, she graduated from school and became a seamstress making clothes for the public. Eventually she became a master craftswoman, making her own clothes including designing and making her own wedding dress.
Years later, Phalsbourg Air Base in France opened, where she found employment, learned English, and met the love of her life, Joseph E. Armagost. The two were wed on November 22, 1958, in Saverne, France, and shared more than six decades of love, partnership, and family.
Alice loved the outdoors, planting flowers around the house, tending to their vegetable garden, and fishing with her husband, whom she always out fished. She enjoyed cooking, making her own applesauce, and canning for future use. She also enjoyed bowling and watching NASCAR races.
Survivors include her son, Daniel Armagost and wife, Katherine (Chase); grandchildren: Genie (Armagost) Howell and husband, Austin; Joseph Armagost and wife, Heather (Edwards); Charinity Armagost; and Matthew Armagost and wife, Emily (Rooney); eight great-grandchildren; twelve nieces; and eleven nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents and her husband.
A joint memorial service honoring the lives of Alice L. Armagost and her husband will be held at a later date at Tallahassee National Cemetery, where her husband will receive full military honors.
