Barbara S.
Rock
November 12, 1955 – January 30, 2019
MORRISONVILLE— Barbara Smart Rock, 63, of Agnew Road, passed away January 30, 2019.
She was born in Plattsburgh, on November 12, 1955, the daughter of Leon and Harriet (LaForest) Smart.
Barbara graduated from Northeastern Clinton Central School in 1973. She graduated from SUNY Canton College in 1975 with an Associate's in Secretarial Science; and went straight to work as a secretary for New York State Electric & Gas. From there, she worked her way up the ladder to First Class UCM apprentice. She was the first woman to qualify and complete that program to First Class Mechanic. After 36 years with NYSEG (also serving as a Union Officer), she retired as the Utility Construction Supervisor. She also held the Chaplin title for the Ladies Auxillary at the American Legion.
She was well respected, admired, and deeply loved amongst her co-workers, friends, and family. Family means the world to her.
She loved riding motorcycles, especially with her big brothers Michael and Gary. She rode to all sorts of motorcycle rallies all around the country with friends (one of them being the infamous Sturgis Rally in 2005). She also loved traveling outside of the U.S.: twice to Italy & Scotland with her sister Cynthia and nieces Sarah and Meghan.
Barbara was a giving, adventurous, selfless, compassionate, and hard-working woman who loved to raise hell and party. Other things she loved were the color red, tequila, wine, flowers in her home, rock 'n' roll, The Dallas Cowboys, The Yankees, shopping, and cars. She was very proud of and took meticulous care of her 1987 baby blue Supra.
She is one of the strongest women we know, and her passing is a shock to everyone who loves and cares about her. She is survived by her husband Stanley Rock of 16 years; sister Cynthia Smart Bell & husband Jeffrey; mother-in-law Pauline Rock; great aunt Verda Norcross; aunt and uncles (including Godmother Marilyn Laforest Warnock); nieces and nephews Kim, Kyle, Michael Jr., Curtis, Sarah, Casey, & Meghan; step-children Katie (Rock) & husband Brent Derocher, Kristie (Rock) & husband Marty Breyette, and Jeremy & fiancée Jessica (Rabideau) Rock; grandchildren Colby, Carsen, Kaiden, Karter, & Sophie; best friends Karen Stiles, Darlene DiBernardo, & Donna Tallman; and many close cousins and friends in New York State, and around the world. She was predeceased by her father and mother Leon & Harriet; and brothers Gary, Michael, & Ronn Smart.
