Obituary

Bartley Franklin Bevins (69) passed away September 6, 2012 in the Renoun Medical Center/Tahoe Pacific Hospitals (Meadows), Reno, NV from complications of a cardiac arrest, anoxic encephalopathy and end stage kidney disease. Bart was born 09/16/1942 and raised in Oakland, California, the son of Bartley Franklin Bevins Sr. and Margaret McMenomy Bevins. He obtained the rank of Eagle Scout at age 16. After graduating in 1961 he joined the US Navy where he served in the Vietnam War and the Pacific theater. He attained the rank of E5 and was on the Admirals staff as Navy Draftsman. As a Navy veteran he never failed to proclaim how proud he was of his service. He married Lynda (Wood) Bouyea on August 24, 2004 in Reno, NV. He was involved in a CBers Club as well as president of a writers group Silver State Quill in the 80s and 90s in the California/Nevada area. Bart worked in various security venues, including casinos in Reno, NV. Bart had a degree in architectural design. He was a skilled draftsman who drew plans for many construction and architectural firms in the Reno area before retiring. Bart was famous for putting on his chefs hat and creating gourmet buffet meals for his friends and family. Bart was an avid aficionado of old west history, including the exploits of John Henry "Doc" Holliday and Wyatt Earp. Bart had completed two histories of his great-great-grandfather and his family moving west: Golden Dreams and The Vacationers . He had an associate membership with Republican Women of Reno and enjoyed working with the Hands of Hope Operation Feedback Food Bank in Reno. Football was his passion " especially the Oakland Raiders and he rooted for any team that could beat the NY Giants! Bart is survived by his wife Lynda (Wood) Bevins, his sister Patricia Yedlin and a brother-in-law Barry of Surprise, Arizona, his dear friends Francisco Pancho Ramos and Amethyst Murphy of Reno, a sister-in-law Lora Wood Bushy and her husband Gary of Wilmington, NY, step-children Monique McBride, Esq. of Selkirk, NY and Tony Hill of Morrisonville, NY, 4 grand-children and one great-grandson and several nieces and nephews, cousins and Doc Holliday Barts loyal Lab/hound. He was predeceased by his parents and late wife JoAnn Lucas Bevins. His final resting place will be in the Wood family plot in Union Cemetery, Mooers Forks, NY with graveside services to be held at a later date. R. W. Walker Funeral Home, 69 Court Street, Plattsburgh, NY will be in charge of arrangements.
