Obituary

Betty Ann Green, age 92 of Chazy, NY died Sunday, August 16, 2026 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Rini Green. Betty was born Betty Ann McKinney in Spanishburg, West Virginia on December 7, 1933. She was the fourth child of the late Wiley McKinney and Violet (Green) McKinney.

Betty moved to Chazy in 1948 to be with her sister Mildred “Jean” Lavigne of Chazy Landing. Betty graduated from Chazy Central Rural School in 1952. On July 27, 1954 Betty married Donald F. (Bus) Green Jr. Betty and Don then moved to Lansing, Michigan for three years before returning to Chazy in 1957. Betty and Don had two sons, Donald “Tre” and Jeffrey.

Betty was a stay-at-home mom and also worked in the family business, Chazy Orchards. Betty was active in the Cub Scouts as her boys grew up as well as other groups in Chazy. She was an excellent cook and made pies with crust that was the envy of all her friends. One of Betty’s true loves was her flower gardens. She adorned her yard with many flower beds of all types and especially her beloved rose garden. The planters by her home were always rich with color all summer and decorated with pine boughs all winter. Betty had a heart of gold and was known as Auntie Betty by many of her friend’s children. Betty was the daughter to many of the older women she knew in childhood, she took care of them as they aged as if they were her own mother. Betty enjoyed being outside. She and some of her friends had a “walking club” as they called it, for many years and she attributed much of her longevity to that.

In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her former husband Donald, son Tre and siblings Jean Lavigne, Jack McKinney, Eldee McKinney, Billy Ray McKinney, James (Mac) McKinney, and Weldon McKinney.

Survivors include her son Jeffrey and his wife Catherine (Rini), her brothers Wiley McKinney and Chester McKinney. She is also survived by her grandchildren David Green and his wife Stephanie, Cynthia (Tia) Hinson and her husband John, Nicholas (Nick) Sprague, Evan Green and his fiancée Samantha (Sam), Donald Green IV (Donny) and his wife Katie, Victoria (Tori) Sukonnik and her husband Josh, Lindsay Greaney and her husband Jon, along with nine great-grandchildren, Olivia and Harper Hinson, Parker, Logan and Riley Sukonnik, Harper Greaney, Astrid, Taliesin and Milla Green, and many nieces and nephews.

Per her wishes there will be no calling hours or church service. A graveside service will be held Thursday, August 27, 2026 at 1:00pm at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Chazy.

A celebration of life will follow at Valcour Brewing Company, 49 Ohio Ave. Plattsburgh.
