Brenda
O'Neil
March 29, 1946 – January 12, 2023
PLATTSBURGH – Brenda (Farmer) O'Neil passed away Jan. 12 2023, at CVPH with her family by her side.
Brenda was born as a twin, with her sister Barbara in Boucherville, Quebec on March 29, 1946, the daughter of Mary Agatha (Bradley) and Joseph Phillip Farmer. She was one of 3 children and survived by her twin Barbara Farmer Ouelette and her younger sister Sharon Farmer Bouchard.
Brenda began her passion for teaching at McGill University in Montreal and went on to receive her Masters of Education at SUNY Plattsburgh. She shared her love for learning with fortunate 4 th graders at Broad St. Elementary School for many years. When our beloved Broad St School closed she carried on at Oak St Elementary with her 5 th graders. She taught for 32 years. Her love for teaching and her students didn't stop at retirement. She continued to act as a long-term substitute teacher until 2019. She was a beloved teacher and colleague in the Plattsburgh City School District. To the day she left us, her students came up to her and expressed how they loved having her as a teacher.
Brenda married the love of her life Hugh O'Neil in August 30, 1969 at St. Enfant Church in Montreal. They enjoyed a wonderful life of love and laughs and family. She loved her winters at Island Vista with Hugh and the wonderful group of friends there. She enjoyed walking the beach and was an expert at finding all the shark's teeth in the Atlantic Ocean. Her granddaughters brought such joy to her life. Brenda and Hugh are survived by Patrick and his wife Rebecca O'Neil and their children Ellie, Makenna, and Kennedy O'Neil, their daughter Bridget and her husband Blake Craddock and their children Caroline and Kailen Craddock. As well as her above mentioned sisters and her nieces Katie Gallegos and Angie Bouchard and her nephew Bradley Bouchard.
The family would like to extend a huge thank you to Dr. Whitman, Rachael Hite, and the nurses at ICU here at CVPH they were wonderful and helped us all through this time. We would also like to thank Brenda's helper Lauren Lyon and her care for Brenda and Hugh. We would also like to thank the family and friends that have supported her in these last two years. We can never express how grateful we are and what this has meant to our family.
