Hobbs
July 8, 1926 – January 2, 2019
PLATTSBURGH - Carl D. Hobbs, age 92, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at his home.
He was born in Beekmantown, NY the son of Roy ands Bertha (Hindes) Hobbs.
He served in the Navy Seabees from 1944-1946 in the Pacific Theater doing heavy construction. When he returned he continued working as a crane and heavy equipment operator, joining the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 106/158. He received his 70 Year plaque and was honored this past summer at the North Country Salute to Labor.
Carl worked for many local contractors. His list of memorable projects include, PAFB, St. Lawrence Seaway, SUNY, Hospital and in 1980 the Olympic Bobsled run.
He married G. Bartella Kerr in 1973, she passed away in December 2014. They spent many years at there Lake Home enjoying snowmobiling, water skiing and always entertaining family and friends. Upon Carl and Bartella's retirement in 1989, they purchased a motorhome and traveled the US and spending many years in Florida.
Carl was a life member of the Plattsburgh BPOE Lodge, American Legion Post 1619, Plattsburgh VFW and a past member of the Beekmantown Fire Department.
He was predeceased by his wife, parents his siblings and their spouses, Naomi(Bert) Rising, Lauren(Marie) Hobbs, Darrell(Theresa) Hobbs, and Alberta(Russell) Quilliams, and niece Sandra Pickersgill and nephew Michael Hobbs.
He is survived by special companion Lita Bechard, nephews, Kieth Rising, Dan Harrison, John, Jim, and Joe Hobbs, and John Quilliams; nieces, Nancy LeFevre and Pam Sutton and many Great Nieces and Nephews
Calling hours will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. With a reception to follow at American Legion Post 1619, West Plattsburgh, NY.
