Carol Ann
Washington
October 23, 1957 – January 15, 2026
With heartfelt sadness, the family of Carol Ann Washington (Grom) announces her passing after a brief battle with stage 4 cancer. Carol was born on October 23, 1957, in North Adams, Massachusetts, and was adopted as an infant by Veronica May Grom (Beaudin) and Vincent John Grom, who lovingly raised her as their own. She passed peacefully after facing her illness with quiet strength.
Carol was predeceased by her parents, Veronica and Vincent, as well as her brothers Tommy Witt, Kevin Goodell, and Kevin's wife, Millie.
She is survived by her children, Anola Mooney, Shannon Griffiths (Craig), Carlos Sauceda (Kristy), Veronica Davies (Ray), and Brandon Grom (Cody). Carol also lovingly raised her grandson, Daryn Grom‑Davies, and her granddaughter, Aaliyah Garrow. In total, she leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 4 great‑grandchildren.
Carol is also survived by her siblings: Vincent Grom (Tammy), August Grom (Kathy), Brian Goodell (Nancy), Carolyn Moon (David), and Jolene Goodell.
Carol was a longtime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Plattsburgh, New York, where she found fellowship, support, and a sense of belonging. Her faith provided her with structure, comfort, and community, and she valued the relationships she built within her church.
In her personal life, Carol found peace in the simple joys of the outdoors. She loved camping, spending time in nature, and swimming whenever she had the chance. Point Au Roche State Park held a special place in her heart, and she also cherished her time at Macomb State Park, where she enjoyed the quiet, the water, and the sense of calm those places brought her. She adored her fur baby, Gambit, who remained a loyal and loving companion.
Carol also leaves behind several close friends who stood by her and supported her throughout her life, including April, Kim, Cathy, Laurie, and Bruce. In her later years, she was also supported by Sue, a church companion who became an important presence in her life.
Her family takes comfort in knowing she is now at peace.
