Carol P.
Woodward
October 27, 1947 – August 29, 2020
Carol Ellen (Parsons) Woodward 72, after a lengthy battle with dementia, followed the rays of the sun to her eternal rest on August 29, 2020 surrounded by her family with a beautiful and peaceful view of Lake Champlain. Carol led a fulfilling life based on caring for family and others, especially children. She was born in Albany, NY on October 27, 1947, the daughter of Sherman and Ellen (Polly) Parsons. She and her brother Michael (Parsons) spent their developmental years on Sanborn Avenue where friends were abundant. Her memories of those days were some of her fondest.
Her husband Dr. Frederick Woodward, son Scot, daughter Lisa, daughter in law Angelique Zaremba-Woodward and grandchildren Gabriel and Sydney, whom she adored, and extended family survive her.
She was one of many her age that attended the Campus school at SUNY and later entered the Plattsburgh public schools graduating high school in 1965. She continued her education at SUNY-Cobleskill majoring in Early Childhood Education following in her mother's footsteps. She earned a BA from PSUC. She directed the YMCA Preschool and went on to direct the Early Childhood Center on PAFB. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving on the session.
In the 80's, she followed her husband to Kinderhook, NY where she led the planning, construction and completion of a community playground at Ichabod Crane Elementary School. President Ronald Reagan cited her for the accomplishment with a Citation for Exemplary Community Service. After moving to SUNY-Morrisville, she again drafted plans and led the construction of the Early Childhood Center for College and Community residents. Later, she moved back to the place she loved on Pt. Au Roche. She was an inaugural Board member of the Strand Theater Restoration Committee, served on the Board of the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) and the Committee for Child and Family at Cooperative Extension.
Carol enjoyed traveling through much of the U.S. and several countries in Europe. What she enjoyed most in life were the children she taught and those in the neighborhood who, now grown, often speak fondly of her. She loved to watch the changes in her own children as they took on the challenges of their own lives. She will be remembered as the one who would do anything to assist someone else.
