Obituary

CHAZY - Carolyn K. Harding, 89, of Chazy and most recently Vilas Home, passed away peacefully at UVM Medical Center on March 1, 2025 surrounded by her loving children.

Known by her family as the "Energizer Bunny," Carolyn was spunky and had a great sense of humor. She was an extraordinary woman, with a lion's share of energy and determination, who'd fought and won a number of difficult health battles over the past decade or so. But this time God called her home.

Born in Clinton, Iowa on September 30, 1935 to Paul and Marion (Schneider) Kelly, Carolyn was the oldest of their 5 children. On June 30, 1956, Carolyn married Leon S. Harding, whom she'd met on a blind date at the Naval Academy. They had  been married for 60 years when Lee died in 2016. Carolyn and Lee started out their married life in NJ and moved around a bit until 1968, when they settled in Plattsburgh with their 5 children. In their later empty-nester years, they had a home in Chazy. Carolyn had an illustrious and successful business career, holding the following positions during her decorated work life: Secretary at Key Bank in Plattsburgh;  Realtor at Paul W. Calkins Realty Inc.; Marketing director at Pyramid Mall/Champlain Centers;  Marketing Director for the Mall Company in Ohio; and  Director of Tourism for Clinton County Chamber of Commerce, where she was instrumental in bringing events like the Mayor's Cup and major fishing tournaments to Plattsburgh.

Carolyn had an impressive portfolio of career accomplishments, but what she was most proud of was the legacy of love she leaves behind in her family.  She was "Mimi" to 17 grandchildren (Ali, Christopher, Zack, Sean, Dan, Mike, Jim, Jack, Paul, Eric, Tara, Hunter, Casey, Tia, Nick, Evan, and David), and at the time of her death was also a great-grandmother to 36 (Gio, Enzo, Lola, CJ, Bernadette, Cecilia, Gemma, Felicity, Leo, Mary, Agnes, Danny, Luke, Timmy, John Francis, Mikey, Grant, Grace, Sophia, Bella, Jackson, Roman, Reilly, Aria, Victoria, Cassie, Rosie, River, Grace, Jane, Max, Rhaena, Olivia, Harper, Astrid, Taliesin) with 2 more on the way.  Carolyn wanted to live long enough to hold the North Country record for number of great-grandchildren. Carolyn was predeceased by her parents, her husband Lee, her brother David, and her sisters Nora, Nancy, and Kathy. She is survived by her 5 children and their spouses: Chris (Lisa) Harding of Syracuse, NY; Laura (Tim) Pearl, of Culpeper, VA; Tom "Max" (Lisa) Harding of Waterford, NY; Elizabeth "Bitty" (Tom) Church, of Cadyville, NY; and Catherine "Rini" (Jeff) Green, of Chazy, NY, in whose home Carolyn lived for the last 7 years of her life. Carolyn is also survived by Lee's sister and her husband, Nancy "Toni" (Howard) Gordon of Lake Placid and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Vilas Home, especially her friend Mandy, and the staff at UVM Medical Center in Burlington for their kindness, care and compassion.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 11:00am at St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. The family will receive guests following the funeral mass. Burial will be in the spring at Holy Name Cemetery in Ausable Forks.
