Obituary

PLATTSBURGH - Cecelia Ruth Guilbo, 79, of Elm St., Plattsburgh, passed away Friday, December 17, 2021, with her loving family by her side. She was born on July 17, 1942, the daughter of Harry Joseph and Mary Elsie (Abare) Barnaby. She grew up in the small town of Jericho, NY in a simpler life. She used to tell us stories about going blueberry picking, having to get water from the brook, and all the trouble they'd get into at the barns. She had the best stories about growing up in Jericho with her brothers and sisters, who she loved so much. Whenever all the siblings get together, they could be heard laughing and joking with one another as if no time had passed.

On September 26, 1959 she married the love of her life William Wesley Guilbo. They shared a beautiful life together going camping at Macomb Park in the summers, going fishing (even though she threw the pole in the water), going for drives to visit family and friends, and dancing together.

While her husband worked at the mill, Cecelia worked outside the home at Phil's Dry Cleaning and cleaning doctor's offices. However, her most cherished job was that of mom and grandma. Cecelia had a spunk and sass that could light up any room. She was always full of jokes, always had a smile on her face, and she loved living life to its fullest. One of her favorite past times was going to bingo with her daughter and best friend, Ann. For many years, she had her own specific table at Seton bingo and could always be found in the same spot. In recent years, she also loved going up to the casino as well. She loved playing the slot machines. She also loved watching John Wayne movies, Hallmark movies at Christmas time, and listening to old country music like George Jones. The life lessons she taught us will live on in the legacy of her family.

Left to cherish her memory are her five amazing children, her son William and wife Judy, her son Barry and wife Melissa, her daughter Robin and husband Tim, her daughter and best friend Ann, and her daughter Shirley. She was also blessed with many grandchildren, who whether they were blood or not, she loved with all her heart. Amanda, Ruthie, Tasha, Holly, Cassie, Amber, Jeff, Robert and Brian Smith, Andrea, Katie, and Christina. Cecelia loved holding babies and was blessed to be a great grandma Cece to Leland, Hunter, Chester, Cole, Spencer, Levi, Landon, Aiden, Liam, and Kayleigh. Cecelia is also survived by her amazing siblings, Gloria Guimond, Raymond Barnaby, and Robert Barnaby; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband William, brother Richard "Dicky" Barnaby and her sister Mary Ann Guerin.

We would like to give thanks to the staff at CVPH of R5 who took amazing care of grandma when she first went in the hospital. We would also like to give special thanks to the staff of the skilled nursing facility or 5 main, where she received the most amazing care in her final weeks. We would like to send our heartfelt thanks to her bingo buddies Mary Rock and Maria Somoty, who showed her and us kindness and love in her remaining time here.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, December 22, 2021 from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow at 1:00pm in the funeral home chapel.
