Charles G.
Laravia
February 28, 1939 – June 4, 2020
Charles Gilbert Laravia, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away peacefully after a short illness on June 4, 2020 surrounded by his wife and children.
Charles was born in Plattsburgh, NY on February 28, 1939, the son of Robert C. and Pauline E. (Murray) Laravia. He attended St. Peter's School and graduated from Mount Assumption Institution in 1958. Charles worked for 31 years as a professional firefighter for the Plattsburgh City Fire Department. Early in his career, he enjoyed working at the Grand Way Department Store and Paul Calkins Auction Gallery.
Charles led a colorful and active life, which included a hunting accident when he was sixteen years old. He recovered and went on to marry the love of his life, Ann Lagree, on August 8, 1959. Together they raised five children in the family home on Bailey Avenue. Charles enjoyed pranks and a good joke, and spending quality time with family and friends. He loved fishing and camping where the traditions and experiences were passed on to his children and grandchildren.
Charles was affiliated with the Plattsburgh Professional Firefighters Association, the Knights of Columbus and the Loyal Order of the Moose. His love of children and sports inspired his participation in the start of the City T-ball Program and his tenure as a coach and President of the Plattsburgh Youth Hockey Program. Ann and Charlie were active spectators at their children and grandchildren's sporting events, a past time they immensely enjoyed.
Charles was predeceased by his mother and father Robert and Pauline Laravia.
Charles is survived by his wife Ann Laravia; their children Lori Laravia, Lisa Laravia Garrand, Linda Peek (Jeff), Charles (Chip) Laravia (Hong), and Michael Laravia. Charles was "Pop" to his grandchildren, Cassey Keyes (Ben), Courtney Pecore (Mike), Geoffrey and Ryan Garrand, Brock and Taylor Peek, Camden, Joshua, Hunter and Chase Laravia. "Pop" was also a Great Grandfather to Kohen Sherwin, Jackson, Jagger and Axel Keyes, and a baby girl due in November. He is also survived by his sister Pamela LaValley and her husband Bruce, his best friends James and Diane Provost, and many other close family and friends including Kevin Cogan and Tim Clark.
