COVENTRY, RI- Charles Rogers Spencer, 78, of Coventry, RI and formerly of Plattsburgh, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2019 at Riverview Nursing Home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Glens Falls, NY on April 16, 1941 the son of Winthrop and Edith (Rogers) Spencer.
Charlie attended Austin Cate Academy, and graduated from White Plains High School in White Plains, NY. He earned an AA degree from Berkshire Christian College and attended Plattsburgh State University. He worked as watchmaker and jeweler for numerous jewelry stores. For a number of years Charlie was active in The Salvation Army and rang bells at several locations in Plattsburgh during the Christmas seasons. Charlie married the former Barbara Reinstein in October of 2001 at First Baptist Church in Plattsburgh. He was an active member at First Baptist Church, Champlain Valley Barbershoppers and Champlain Valley Stamp Collectors. Charlie loved watching sports. He was also a stamp collector, a model railroader and sang tenor with the Barbershoppers. Charlie was a kind man, much loved by his family. He had a smile for everyone, an open mind, an open heart, and a great faith in the Lord.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Spencer; his stepchildren, Michael Reinstein of San Francisco, CA and Sarah Reinstein of North Smithfield, RI; sisters, Elizabeth (Robert) Klein of Bloomfield, CT and Carolyn (Roger) Baker of Rutland, VT; and nephews, William Ivey, John Ivey, David Baker, Bruce Baker, and Stephen Baker. He was predeceased by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 1, 2019 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home with a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, followed by burial in Riverside Cemetery, Plattsburgh.
Donations may be sent to the Salvation Army in memory of Charlie.
