Obituary

DANNEMORA- Daniel Lawrence Joseph Lucia, 70, of Manley St., passed away Monday, July 6, 2020 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Plattsburgh on February 15, 1950 the son of Daniel and Mary (Ryan) Lucia.

Daniel attended St. Joseph's Elementary School in Dannemora and graduated from MAI in 1969. He married Anna LaBarge at St. Patrick's Church in Chateaugay on August 29, 1970.

Daniel started his career as a lab tech at CVPH from 1970 to 1981. He then became a Correction Officer at Clinton Correctional facility from 1981 to 2006 and later was the Village Judge in Dannemora, until it was necessary to retire.

In his younger years at MAI Daniel enjoyed boxing and early in his marriage he liked staying active playing baseball, bowling, broomball, cards, and slot machines. Most recently, with his failing health, he enjoyed watching his grandsons play sports, dining out, and family time.

Daniel was a life member of the Knights of Columbus #2166, and served as Grand Knight two terms, a member of the Sons of the America Legion, Quarry Rd., member of the NYS Retired Magistrates Association, member of the Lost Pond Hunting Club, and was a past member of the Dannemora Fire Department.

Danny had a big heart and was always willing to help someone in need. He so appreciated his fellow Correction Officers, who remembered him and kept in touch as his health failed. He enjoyed visiting with all the nieces and nephews and goofing around with the kids – even slipping them a penny or two!

Survivors include his wife, Anna Lucia of Dannemora; his son, Eric and his wife Lisa Lucia of Saranac; a daughter, Laurie and her companion Bruce Jennette of Dannemora; brother James and Cheryl Lucia of Dannemora; sisters Nancy and Steve Liberty of Chazy Lake, Eileen Wood of Plattsburgh, Jeri Bennett of West Plattsburgh, Cindy and James Blair of Dannemora; grandchildren, Hailea Cross and her companion Mark Eggleston, Evan Cross, Logan, Zachary, Karson Lucia; great-granddaughter Kelsey Eggleston; and several nieces and nephews.
