Obituary

SARANAC – David M. Learned, 77, of Ganong Drive, passed away, October 6, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Plattsburgh on October 17, 1941, son of Fred and Aurilla (Gregory) Learned.

David graduated from Columbia University, the Drew University School of Theology, and received his counseling education at SUNY Plattsburgh.

He married the former Brenda Chase and together they raised their two children until her passing. David then met the former Ann Rogers Mudgett and they married on October 29, 1988 at the Saranac Methodist Church. David was confirmed as a catholic in 2010, and their marriage was convalidated at St. James Catholic Church in Cadyville.

David served as a Substance Abuse Counselor with the Clinton County Mental Health Department for over 20 years. He helped numerous individuals during this time as well as through many other civic services, including during his younger years, a Field Representative with the American Cancer Society, Pastor at the Fairmount Methodist Church in New Jersey, and more recently Senior Counselor at the Plattsburgh Community Crisis Center. David was also very active in his community and took great pride in serving with the Saranac Fire Department and Rescue Squad as an Advanced EMT-Critical Care. He had also previously owned and operated Northstar Fireworks in Montpelier, VT.

David enjoyed many different hobbies, including, Model Railroading and photography, especially during the fall season in the Adirondacks.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Learned of Saranac; son, Kerry Learned of Saranac; daughter, Amy Learned and her partner, Fran Rivera of Morrisville, PA; brother, John Learned and his wife Coleen Corey of Honolulu, HI; and 4 nieces and 3 nephews.

David was predeceased by his parents and his first wife, Brenda Learned in 1983.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2019 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 a.m. in St. James Church, Cadyville.

Burial will take place at a later date in Independence Cemetery in Saranac.

Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of the North Country or the Saranac Fire Department and Rescue Squad.
