July 17, 1943 – June 1, 2022
PLATTSBURGH – David C. Reed, 78, went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 1, 2022 after a lengthy battle with dementia and heart failure at his home.
He was born on July 17, 1943 to Clarence and Florence (Prophet) Reed in Plattsburgh, NY.
David grew up on the family farm in West Chazy. He attended and graduated from Beekmantown Central School, Class of 1962. After graduation he began his career in construction but was drafted into the Army, serving his country from 1965-1967, and was deployed to Vietnam as a water purification specialist.
On March 3, 1969, David married the former Edith M. Mattoon in Plattsburgh, where they raised their four children.
In 1973 he started David Reed Construction which he owned and operated for over 40 years. During that time, he was a Northern Homes and Woodmaster Dealer. David was gifted in the art of wood working and crafted numerous items for the family home and his friends.
David was also a talented "story teller" to his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife, Edith of 53 years; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl (Jason) Walker; daughter, Linda Reed; five granddaughters, Kaitlyn, Hope, Paige, Sandra and Abigail; four great-grandchildren, Jordyn, MiraJane, DJ and Mazi; brothers, Jack and Douglas; sister-in-law, Patricia Mattoon; brother-in-law, Clayton Cutter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
David was predeceased by his parents, sons, Tod and Timothy, sister, Rosalind Cutter, sister-in-law, Beverly Reed and brothers-in-law, Royal and Floyd Mattoon.
The family will receive guests on Saturday, June 4 th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. The visitation will take place at the church that David designed and built, the Turnpike Wesleyan Church in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow at 11:00.
Burial will take place at a later date in West Plattsburgh Union Cemetery.
