Our world lost a magnificent spark on Friday April 12 with the passing of our love, Dennis Viera. He suffered a massive coronary at home while doing his evening barn chores.

His two greatest loves, his wife Amy (Moon) and son Miles survive to continue his legacy, share his love, and keep his spirit alive.

Dennis Frederick Viera, 54, was born May 25, 1964 to Mildred Mae (Hoehn) and Wilford Viera in Erie PA. He was the youngest of six siblings.

He spent his career in restaurant/food service and student housing management until he retired in 2014 to create their farmstead, Roots to Roost.

Amy and Dennis were officially married at their home this past October 1st so they could share a family name after 10 1/2 years together. The couple began their journey together in 2008 in Lockport NY, where their greatest gift was created and their son Miles Fredrick was born. The family moved to the Plattsburgh area in December 2010, ultimately settling in Sciota. Dennis managed the College Suites in Plattsburgh until 2014, when Amy earned her RN and he was able to retire from business management to start focusing on his new passion. For the past four years, Dennis dedicated himself to connecting his family with nature, and committed endless hours developing their self-sustaining farmstead, Roots to Roost. His vegetable gardens and animals were such pride for him, and his profound work ethic drove him every day to love and care for them with the greatest respect. He was eager to start the next phase of sharing the farm's abundance with the community through a road-side produce stand, which he and Miles were preparing to complete within the next month. He spent his last day working on a hoop-house to transplant his seedlings that were started indoors and are now growing thanks to his tender and loving touch. Over the past couple years, Dennis and Amy worked together to learn animal husbandry, and Dennis spent significant time at D&D Meats learning butchering skills. While there, his extended family of special friends grew, with whom he shared his passions.

Dennis single-handedly gutted and renovated the home they share. His spirit, life, and effort are alive throughout the property, and more importantly, in his families' souls. Dennis was fiercely loyal to his loves- Miles and Amy. He was forever proud of Miles and was amazed every day of what an awesome little man he created. His commitment to Miles was endless, which he showed by attending every practice and game in Miles' first basketball season this past winter. He also passed on his passion and skills of self-sustainability which Miles will carry on forever. Dennis's singular and absolute reason to live was to make sure his wife and son felt how much he loved them every single day. He wanted nothing more than their happiness.

His son Miles attends 4th grade at Moore's Elementary, and will remain at the farmstead with Amy, to truly roost where the family roots have been planted. Dennis will be reuniting with several family members and friends who have passed, including his mother, father and brother Ron . He is survived by siblings Bill, Pat, Mary and Betty, as well as his three grown children Kyle, Alison, and Christopher. His friends are everywhere, namely those in Erie, Canandaigua, Lockport and here in Plattsburgh.

Calling hours will be Saturday, April 20 from 12 to 2pm at R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh NY. A celebratory party in Dennis's honor will be held at their family home immediately following.

*Miles and I will always be the center of Dennis's love, and we hope that everyone we knew and cared for will join us to radiate his legacy: to always find the positive in every situation, to always work your hardest, to be your best without quitting, and most importantly, to show your love to those who mean the most to you.
