PLATTSBURGH, NY-- Donald J. Evans, 86, formerly of Gokey Road, Saranac and Rugar St. Plattsburgh, died Friday, June 1, 2012 at the CVPH Medical Center. He was born in Granville, NY on October 29, 1925 the son of John F. and Alice (Evans) Evans. Don served in the U. S. Navy from June 30, 1943 to December 19, 1945 aboard the USS Miami as a gunners mate. Following World War II, he returned to the North Country and was employed at Scott Paper Co. for 43 years, retiring in 1990. He was a life member of American Legion Post #0323 and V.F.W. Post #1653, in Granville, NY. Don liked camping, hunting and fishing and enjoyed staying at Camp Forever in Redford, NY. Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Ennis of Virginia and Tina Joiner of Plattsburgh; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Walter and Mary Evans of West Fort Ann, NY, John and Helen Evans of Granville, NY and Robert and Marlene Evans of Fort Edward, NY; four grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his wife, Shirley (Wood) Evans; his parents; one brother, G. Roger Evans; and one sister, Darlene Evans. Graveside funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 2:00 pm in the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY. Following the interment, there will be a gathering of family and friends at the home of his brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Mary Evans, 1224 Tripoli Rd., Hudson Falls, NY.
