Obituary

PLATTSBURGH – Doris Lillian Laver Lounsbury, 95, was called home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at the Clinton County Nursing Home.

She was born in Plattsburgh on November 17, 1923 the daughter of James and Flora Maine (Coolidge) Laver and was proud to be a descendant of US President Calvin Coolidge.

She graduated from Peru Central School in 1941 and then attended The School of Nursing at the Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, NY in 1944 where she received her degree as a registered nurse. She then went to work at the nursery at Physicians Hospital before moving to California in 1966.

Doris married Luther Hagar in 1945 and lived on Breezy Head Farm on Cumberland Head until their divorce in 1965. Their marriage resulted in 6 children.

After moving to California, she worked as a nurse at various hospitals. While in California she met Robert Lounsbury, who was from Keeseville, NY and they married in 1968. Robert died in 2007.

After Robert died, Doris moved back to Plattsburgh to be closer to her family. Doris was a resident of the Clinton County Nursing Home for over 4 years. The family wishes to thank everyone at Clinton County Nursing Home for the wonderful care she received while she was there. The kindness and compassion that Doris and her family received will never be forgotten.

Doris was an animal lover, always having dogs and cats over the course of her life.

Doris loved living in Squaw Valley, CA and surrounded herself with beautiful gardens and landscaping that she and her husband Robert took great pride in.

Doris was a member of the United Methodist Church on Beekman Street when she lived in Plattsburgh. While in CA she was a member of the Mountain Valley Community Church in Squaw Valley where she participated in bible study and she also taught Sunday school.

Survivors include her daughters, Linda Hagar of Plattsburgh, Susan (George) Miller of Plattsburgh, Jane (Matthew) Babbie of Cumberland Head, and Dorothy (Joseph) Coia of Apache Junction, Arizona; sons, Jonathan (Fatima) Hagar of Rough and Ready, CA and Jeffrey Hagar of Grass Valley, CA; brother, John Laver of Plattsburgh; nieces, Kimberly Laver-Wells of Wellington, FL and Tammy Laver-Forget of Plattsburgh; nephew, David Farnsworth of N. Spring, VT; grandchildren, Timothy Mancini, Shelly Esposito, Lori Peryer, Jason Miller, Brandon Miller, Tony Miller, Thomas Hagar, Melissa Rock-McCasland, Jill Rock, Jessica Coia, Joseph Coia, Kyanne Hagar and Sarah Hagar; 19 great-grandchildren; her special friend, Bill Orr of Mecca, CA and her life long friend whom she always referred to as her "first born daughter", Judy Lighthall-Marking of West Chazy and Pinellas Park, FL.

She was predeceased by her 1st husband, Luther Hagar, second husband, Robert Lounsbury; sisters, Jeane Laver-Shand and Dr. Norma Laver-Loeser; brother, James Laver, Jr.; and grandson, Christopher Miller.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 9th at 10:00 a.m. in Riverside Cemetery in Plattsburgh.

Memorial donations can be sent to the Elmore SPCA or to the activity fund at the Clinton County Nursing Home.
