Todd
August 10, 1940 – February 29, 2024
Little River- Dorothy M. (Samons) Todd, 83, of Little River, SC, passed away Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Dot was born in Ogdensburg on August 10, 1940, the second daughter of Dale A. and Alice R. (Delaney) Samons. The family relocated to Dannemora, NY in Dot's infancy. She graduated from Dannemora High School, and attended Albany Medical Center School of Nursing. As an Air Force wife, she lived in New York; Azores, Portugal; Texas; and England. From England, Dot returned to Dannemora to raise her three children. After they were grown, she made Plattsburgh her home. Dot loved the Adirondacks, but following the harsh winter of 2014, she moved to Little River, SC. She was a career Civil Servant, working for both Clinton County and Clinton Correctional Facility, where she retired with 28 years of service.
Dot led an active life. While in Dannemora, she was a Bingo caller for St. Joseph's Church, filled an unexpired term on the village planning board and was a charter member and three-time Queen Lioness of the former Dannemora Lioness Club. Upon moving to Plattsburgh, she was a faithful member of St. Peter's Church, a radio reader for the visually impaired, charter member and Queen Mother of the Lake Country Village Red Hat Club, and a client facilitator in the AARP tax program at the senior center where she was a life member. Dot enjoyed playing bridge and loved to travel. She visited five continents and all fifty states. In her later years, she partnered with Ismael Colon, and together they enjoyed many adventures, traveling to China, Puerto Rico, and Machu Picchu in Peru, South America among other places. She will always be remembered for her generosity, and for her strength and grace in facing the challenges that life presented to her.
Survivors include her daughter Laura Springer; four grandchildren - Justin Springer, Clare Ibach, Elliot Springer and Nora Yarborough; their partners - Ashley Hawkins, Stephen Ibach, Skye Cruz, and Josh Yarborough; nine great-grandchildren - Benjamin Springer, Elijah Ibach, Isabella Ibach, Graham Ibach, Zoë Cruz-Springer, John Yarborough, Blayze Hawkins, Aiyanna Hawkins, and Xavier Hawkins. Also surviving are the many wonderful people she valued both as friends and extended family.
Dot was predeceased by her parents and her sister Norma; her sons, Michael and Christopher; her son-in-law John Springer; and her companion Ismael Colon.
Entombment will be at the Plattsburgh Community Mausoleum at a later date to be announced.
