CHAZY – Edith Julianna Cesar, 90, of Chazy, New York passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at CVPH in Plattsburgh, surrounded by her children and friends.
Edith was born in Hungary to Istvan Egervari and Ida Reichenbach-Egervari. She was predeceased by her brother Istvan. Edith often spoke warmly of her family and friends in her beloved city of Vac. She attended the Karolina Institute where she obtain her degree in antique textile restoration. She met and married her husband Ferenc Cesar-Csaszar in Hungary while working for the communist government as an art juror. While in Hungary, Edith was very active in the Vac Choir and to the end of her life maintained a vast knowledge of and appreciation for classical music. Hearing her play the piano brightened the day.
Edith and her husband fled during the Hungarian revolution of 1956. She left behind her father, mother, and many cousins. Her journey started in Switzerland where she gave birth to her two children, Frank and Anna. Her mother was able to join her here. While raising her family Edith was employed as a translator for an electronics company. From here Edith and her family went to Botany Bay, Australia where they waited to emigrate to Canada and as a family prepared for their new location by learning to speak English.
Once in Canada, Edith continued working as a textile restorer while also managing to be a brilliant wife and mother. She was loved by all who she encountered both on the business and personal level. Edith had an exuberant way about her – she was unique in her ability to turn the most mundane into something extraordinary.
While still in Canada, Edith purchased a summer home on Lake Champlain. Here she developed her skill for gardening, painting and cooking exceptional European meals. Edith and her family stayed at this location for twenty years making lasting friendships with her community. She and her husband also had a home in Palm Beach, Florida for many years.
Edith continued her business career late into her seventies. She had two art studios, one in Montreal and one in Atlanta. Her husband predeceased her at this time. Her retirement brought her to her daughter's home where she continued to be a spread happiness through her kindness and upbeat manner. Edith was a free-spirit and anyone who knew her recognized the uniqueness that she possessed. She will be remember and loved by many.
Edith is survived by her daughter Anna, (Chazy, North N.Y.) her son Frank, (Newark, TX.) and grandson Jeffrey (Arden, N.C.).
Calling hours will be at R.W. Walker Funeral Home, 69 Court Street in Plattsburgh, New York on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 between the hours of 4 – 6 p.m.
