Edith M.
Reed
July 8, 1945 – August 29, 2024
On Thursday, August 29th, 2024, Edith M. (Mattoon) Reed was ushered home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after a very short battle with peritoneal carcinomatosis, at the home of her beloved daughter, Cheryl and son-in-law, Jason, under the care of Hospice of the North Country.
Edie was born on July 8, 1945 in Plattsburgh, NY to Irwin C. and Marjorie E. (Vaughan) Mattoon.
She attended and graduated from Beekmantown Central School Class of 1963. After graduation, she attended Plattsburgh State, earning her BS in elementary education in 1967. She went on to teach in Malone, NY and later she was a teacher's aide at Beekmantown for pre-k. She was also the book keeper for her husband's business; David Reed Construction. She was an active member of the Turnpike Wesleyan Church as a Sunday school teacher; clubhouse leader; missionary society treasurer and vice president; a delegate to conference; church board member; and CYC director.
Edie was the best mom ever and spent a lot of her adult life being a caregiver for her family. She cared for her ill sons; was an amazing cook; had a green thumb; was an avid bowler, and bowled year-round in the Guys and Gals Senior bowling league. She was a devoted Plattsburgh State Men's Cardinal Hockey team fan, attending both home and away games for over 40 years, and was a season's ticket holder, attending many games with her son-in-law, Jason.
On March 3, 1969, Edie married David C. Reed in Plattsburgh NY where they raised their four children and a granddaughter.
Edie is survived by her daughter Cheryl (Jason) Walker; daughter Linda Reed; granddaughter Kaitlyn, whom she loved like a daughter; granddaughters Hope, Paige. Sandra, and Abigail; great grandchildren Jordyn, MiraJane, DJ, Mazi, and Harlem. Also surviving are her brothers-in-law Jack and Douglas Reed; Clayton Cutter; sisters-in-law Patricia Mattoon and Linda Wells Mattoon; step mother Fran Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband David; sons Tod and Timothy; brothers Royal and Floyd; and sisters-in-law Rosalind Cutter and Beverly Reed.
The family will receive guests at Turnpike Wesleyan Church on Saturday, September 7th from 1pm to 2pm, and a funeral service will follow at 2pm.
A private burial will take place at a later date at the convenience of family at West Plattsburgh Union Cemetery.
The family would like to take the opportunity to thank the Palliative Care Team at UVM, especially Ann Laramee, RN, APRN in easing a difficult process. Also, the family is grateful to Hospice of the North Country for their support.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the American Cancer Society: Lois McClure Bee Tabakin, Hope Lodge-Burlington VT, 237 East Ave, Burlington, VT 05401 or Hospice of the North Country, 358 Tom Miller Road, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.
