Edward
Graf
August 8, 1931 – June 22, 2022
PLATTSBURGH - Edward William Graf, the son of William and Anna (Miller) Graf, died June 22, 2022, at the age of 90. His passing leaves a great void in the lives of those who loved him.
Ed was born and educated in South Ozone Park, NY. Along the journey, he served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict, returned home, met his best friend's sister, and married the great love of his life, Rita (Kotz) Graf, on September 17, 1955. Their marriage began in Richmond Hill, Queens where they lived until Ed and Rita moved to Farmingdale, NY in 1959. Stephen joined their small family in 1956, followed by Linda in 1959, and Kenneth in 1962.
Ed's career with the Nassau County Police Department began in 1962. Upon his retirement in 1985, Ed and Rita left the suburbs to live an idyllic life on Chazy Lake, NY. Ed's days were filled with remodeling an old summer camp, and tooling the back country roads on his Honda Goldwing with Rita as his sidekick. -40 degree winter days initially were no barrier to Ed and Rita's love of life on the shores of this Adirondack lake. One winter, however, Ed and Rita returned home after a short trip south, and announced they purchased a home in Venice, Florida. They lived there until 2000 when they decided to return "home." Ever the master carpenter, Ed could build a house in his head. His passion for woodworking and tools led him into a side business making and installing kitchen cabinets while he was living in Farmingdale. Their love for camping brought Ed and Rita into the Champlain Valley and Adirondacks long before they moved to the North Country.
He was an avid reader, loved all things cars, watch sports, fish in the ocean, and general tinkering around the house. Ed Graf was a kind man. He loved his wife. He loved his children. He loved his family. There is no greater legacy than that.
He is survived by his wife, his brother, Donald Graf, his three children, Stephen Graf (Daniel Ladue), Linda Carpenterei, Kenneth Graf (Claudia Graf), three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
His funeral Mass will take place at Our Lady of Victory Church on July 9, 2022 at 10:00 am. Friends are invited to a reception afterwards at Lake Forest Senior Retirement Community. Internment will be at the convenience of the family.
Memorial donations may be made to an orphanage--Casa Hogar Sagrado--in Tinaquilo, Venezuela. Checks may be sent to the North Country Mission of Hope (3452 Route 22, Peru, NY 12972) with a note that funds be directed to Casa Hogar. Great and humble thanks are extended to all who cared.
