BEEKMANTOWN: Edward A. Oakley, 79, of the Brooks Bend Rd. died Sunday morning, March 14, 2010, at the CVPH Medical Center. He was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on November 19, 1930, the son of Moses and Eula (Simpson) Oakley. Mr. Oakley married the former Muriel Lucia at Methodist-Episcopal Church in West Chazy in 1951. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park, NY in 1949, Cobleskill Ag. And Tech. School in 1951, Plattsburgh State College in 1957 and later received his Masters in Education. Mr. Oakley was a Jr. High Teacher at Beekmantown Central High for 30 years and also worked as a U. S. Customs and Immigration Officer for 14 years. Mr. Oakley was a Korean War Veteran, a member of the United Methodist Church, Masonic Fraternal Lodge #155 in W. Chazy, the Oriental Shrine Lodge of Troy, NY, American Legion Post # 20, VFW Post #1466, NYS Teachers Retirement System, and the North Country Squares. He loved fishing, hunting, golfing, music, family gatherings and trips to Nebraska to visit his daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Muriel; one son, Steven Oakley of Beekmantown; two daughters, Judith Kress and her husband Richard and Barbara North and her husband Richard all of Omaha, NE; two brothers, John Oakley and his wife Gerry of Albany and Howard Oakley and his wife Melva of Venice, FL; his brother-in-law, Morris G. Lucia, Jr. and his wife Jane of Winter Haven, FL; six grandchildren, Nathan, Brian and Daniel Kress and Moriah, Cole and Luke North; three great-grandchildren, Keagan, Hannah and Haley Kress and several nieces and nephews. One grandchild, Matthew Kress, died earlier. Calling hours will be held Sunday, March 28 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm at the R. W. Walker Funeral, 69 Court St., Plattsburgh, NY. A Masonic Ritualistic Service will be held at 3:30 pm and the American Legion Ritualistic Service will be held at 7:00 at the Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Monday, March 29 at 2 pm at the United Methodist Church in Plattsburgh.
