LYON MOUNTAIN -Elaine C. Osher, 100, formerly of Route 374, passed away Friday, October 26, 2018 at the CVPH Medical Center with her daughter at her side.
She was born in Port Henry on September 23, 1918 the daughter of Francis and Mary (Hamel) Durnin and recently celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends. Elaine married Maynard Osher in Standish, NY on September 1, 1940 and then moved to Troy, NY. Elaine and Maynard eventually moved to West Sand Lake, NY to raise their 2 children. After Maynard's retirement, they moved back to Standish. Maynard passed away on April 24, 1998.
She was an Avon Representative for over 20 years. Elaine enjoyed spending her winters in Florida and was an avid bingo and pinochle player. She was also the former Vice President of the Lyon Mountain Senior Citizens. In her prime she was an avid baker and her family and friends all have fond memories of her carrot cake, lemon meringue pie as well as her molasses cookies. Elaine found strength in her faith as a devout Catholic.
Survivors include one daughter, Phyllis Hall and her husband, Dale of Averill Park, NY; a dear friend, Tina Charland; daughter-in-law, Marie Osher of Malta, NY; sister-in-law, Shirley Durnin of Lyon Mountain; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband; son Thomas Osher; and four siblings, Virginia Dunn, Jane Trombley, William Durnin, Sr, and Mary Bracy.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Skilled Nursing Facility at the CVPH Medical Center for the wonderful care they gave to Elaine.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 29, 2018 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh.
Burial will take place at a later date in St. Bernard's Cemetery.
