SARANAC – Elizabeth "Betty" A. Carter, 97, formerly of the Hardscrabble Road, passed away on July 11, 2021 at the Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility.
She was born in Plattsburgh on June 13, 1924 the daughter of Napoleon and Melvina (Sulia) Agnew.
Betty was a member of the Assumption of Mary in Redford, Apostleship of Prayer in Redford and a former member of the Rosary Alter Society at St. James Minor Church in Cadyville.
She was employed as a waitress at Jock's Restaurant in Cadyville for 8 years before retiring in 1974.
Betty was a loving and nurturing foster parent for numerous children for over 13 years. She also volunteered for many agencies throughout the North Country and enjoyed making rosaries for the catholic missions.
Survivors include her sons, John L. (Gail) Kargoe of Cairo, NY, Thomas E. Kargoe of Aylette, VA and Charles A. Kargoe of Morrisonville; daughters, Tania Kargoe of Plattsburgh, Dora Thompson of Plattsburgh, Eugenia Blow of Ellenburg, and Marie (Leonard) McKenzie of Saranac; son-in-law, Leon LaMare of West Chazy; step-children, Oliver (Janet) Carter of Saranac, Barbara (Terry) Ducatte of Saranac and Virginia Pasquerella of Schnectady; sister-in-law, Jane Agnew; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; first husband, William Kargoe; second husband, James Carter; daughter Joan LaMare; siblings, Edward Agnew, Elmer Agnew, Charles Agnew and Alice Austin; and son-in-law, Ronnie Blow; step son-in-law, Robert Pasquerella; a grandson, Leonard W. McKenzie; and a step-grandson, Jimmy Lamora.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 12:00 p.m. in the Church of the Assumption in Redford.
Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Elmore SPCA, the JCEO, or the Church of the Assumption in Redford.
