Elizabeth "Joan"
Martin
May 21, 1932 – June 22, 2023
PLATTSBURGH – Elizabeth "Joan" Martin, 91, of Massachusetts Road and formerly of Palm Bay, FL, passed away June 22, 2023.
She was born on May 21, 1932, daughter of Harold and Hazel (Perry) King.
Joan married Clifford "Miles" Martin on November 9, 1950 in St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora. Miles predeceased her on July 10, 1993.
She worked as a secretary/receptionist for Dr. Robert Heins, DDS, Dr. C. Silver, and surgeon Dr. Hassam.
Joan was a longtime member of the Catholic Daughters in Dannemora for over 50 years as well as serving as past Grand Regent, member of the Senior Center in Plattsburgh and Palm Bay, FL, past member of the Ladies of St. Joseph's in Dannemora and St. Alexander's in Morrisonville, and a current member of St. Peter's in Plattsburgh.
She loved to visit with friends and family either in person or by phone and had lifetime connections to friends. Joan enjoyed reading the daily paper, playing cards, exercising in the pool, and playing shuffleboard.
Her memory of relational connections and how people are related for generations was extraordinary. Joan could list aunts, uncles, cousins and spouses, along with their children, where they lived, and their occupation on both sides of the family for generations. She would also surprise the family by knowing familial connections of people in the community.
Survivors include her children, Steve (Sue) Martin, Denise Tourville, Mary Jean (Don) Curry, and Leslie Martin; grandchildren, Donna Bertrand, Erika Tourville, Nathan (Katherine) Curry, Evan Curry, Meghan (Jonah) Sharpe, Dane (Kara) Curry, Patrick Butera, and Corey (Rachel) Martin; seven great-grandchildren, Miles, Mason, Elizabeth, Kelly, Arthur, Phoebe, and Lowen; sisters-in-law, Kathleen King, Rita Martin, Velma Martin, Jean Martin, and Shelley Bertrand; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband; son-in-law, Wayne Tourville; and brother, Francis King.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 25th from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 2:00 p.m. in St. Peter's Church followed by entombment in the Plattsburgh Community Mausoleum.
