Ellen L.
Cronk
May 15, 1949 – March 10, 2024
Ellen L. (Bowen) Cronk, 74, of Morrisonville, passed away March 10, 2024, after a long battle with dementia. Ellen was born May 15, 1949, to Hollis and Mary (Ledwith) Bowen in Elizabethtown, NY. Ellen cherished her memories of her childhood growing up on Lake Champlain in the quaint town of Essex, NY. A time that spurred many stories she loved to share with her family. Ellen dedicated her life to caring for others, helping raise her three younger siblings, and later as a nurse and mother. After graduating from Willsboro Central School in 1967, she attended the Champlain Valley School of Nursing, becoming a Registered Nurse in 1970. She provided dedicated and compassionate care to her patients at the CVPH Medical Center for more than 40 years. Throughout her career, she made many valued life-long friends.
Ellen met and married her husband of 52 years, David Cronk, in 1971. The two made their home on Kimberly Lane in Morrisonville, where they found a strong community of friends and raised their three children together. Ellen enjoyed the simple things in life, a cup of tea, collecting antiques, time in her garden, crossword puzzles, cooking for her family, and a chocolate ice cream cone each night. Ellen could be relied on to lend a helping hand to those in need, a testament to her strength of character as a woman of kindness, courage, diligence, and love. Spending time with her loved ones was always a priority for Ellen who was an anchor of her family. A tradition carried on by her husband and children as she battled frontotemporal dementia over the last 15 years of her life. During this time, Ellen received the same care and kindness she put out in the world from her friends and family. Her family honored Ellen through the fundraising team Ellen's Rebellion, hosting numerous events and raising money each year for the Alzheimer's Walk. With the dedication of her husband and the support of the caring team at the Third Age Adult Day Center, Ellen was able to be cared for in the home she cherished for many years and her family found a supporting community and many new friends. In the final years of her life, she found a home at the Skilled Nursing Facility at CVPH Medical Center, where she encountered many passionate caregivers like herself and enjoyed daily visits from her husband.
Ellen is predeceased by her parents Hollis and Mary (Ledwith) Bowen, parents-in-law Rev. Warren and Marian (Small) Hilfiker, sister-in-law Ellen "Nellie" Cronk, and brother-in-law Ted Hilfiker.
