ELLENBURG DEPOT - Ellis Drury passed away peacefully at his home in Ellenburg Depot, New York on Sunday, October 21, 2018 due to complications of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). Ellis was born November 1, 1949 in Brunswick, Georgia to Sarah "Jane" Turner and A.M. Drury II. He grew up in the "Southend" and graduated from Glynn Academy. After graduation, he attended Brunswick College later enlisting in the US Navy serving on the USS Enterprise. He was stationed at Miramar Naval Air Station in San Diego, California. Upon his return to civilian life, Ellis was employed at, and retired from, Georgia Power Authority Plant McManus in Brunswick, GA.
Ellis was married to Margaret "Peggy" Hogan. They lived on their beloved St. Simons Island in Georgia until 2014 at which time they moved to Ellenburg Depot. Ellis and Peggy had many wonderful travel adventures with the most favorite being their trip to Alberta, Canada. Ellis loved nature and was particularly interested in birding, coastal ecology, history, his flower gardens, hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, beach walks and body surfing, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Ellis embraced technology keeping abreast with the latest advances in computers and digital photography. He was a quiet, reflective, and talented man who was accomplished in photography, oil and water painting, and playing guitar. He loved everything music, but especially Rock and Roll. In his younger years, he was a member of the band "Froto and the Hobbits" playing gigs in and around the Brunswick area including at the Naval Air Station Glynco.
Ellis is survived by his wife, Peggy, brothers Mills and Gary, and sister J.R. Lasch, Aunts Agnes Turner and Pat Turner. He is additionally survived by his cherished nephews, nieces, step daughter, cousins and their families.
Peggy wishes to thank the caregivers, friends and neighbors, and Hospice of the North Country for their support during Ellis' illness.
