Barcomb
July 17, 1928 – October 23, 2019
PLATTSBURGH – Elmer C. Barcomb, 91, of Stafford Road, passed away, October 23, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Saranac Lake on July 17, 1928, son of George and Lillian (Therrien) Barcomb.
Elmer served as an Army Corporal-Radio Operator from 1950-1952. He also began working at the General Electric in Schenectady, where he was a leader that worked on turbines in the wire mill. Elmer retried in 1988 after 38 years of service.
During this time, he met the former Nancy Pratt and they married on July 24, 1974.
Elmer lived life to the fullest and enjoyed horseshoes, playing cards, going boating and fishing, camping, snowmobiling, bowling, and even arm wrestling. He had a passion for cars and old western movies, and enjoyed old country music, especially his favorite song, "You Are My Sunshine". Elmer also spent numerous winters in Yuma, AZ, and fulfilled a lifelong dream by taking a cruise in Alaska.
Elmer was a member of the Moose Lodge, and was an Honorary Life Member of the Local 301 and the International Union at GE.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 45 years, Nancy Barcomb; son, Carlton and Joanne Barcomb; daughters, Linda Zampella, Brenda Barcomb and John Higgins, and Theresa and Edward Ritcher; step-children, Cheryl and James Lucia, Craig and Christy Stow, Dale and Mary Stow, Sharlene Stow, Lisa Stow-Wyatt and Julian Wyatt, and Dean Stow; brothers, Kenneth Barcomb and Joyce Drake, and Frederick and Barbara Barcomb; sisters, Rita and Darwyn Burnell, and Marjorie and Noel Dusek; sisters-in-law, Connie Barcomb and Joan Duchin; step-mother, Shirley Amell; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Elmer was predeceased by son-in-law, David Zampella, and grandson, Justin Ritcher.
Elmer had a deep love for God, Family, and Country. He will be greatly missed by all who knew, loved, and cared about him. He was a kind hearted man with a contagious smile that touched everyone's heart.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 29 th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
