Elsie M.
Roesch
November 12, 1920 – March 13, 2020
PLATTSBURGH- Elsie Mae Roesch answered the call of her beloved husband, Arnold, and entered the realms of glory on March 13, 2020. She passed away after a short stay at Meadowbrook Healthcare in Plattsburgh.
She was born on Nov 12, 1920 in Greensboro Md . Her parents were Bertha Frances and John R Luff. She grew up with two brothers, John Ray Jr and Lawrence. A sister, Kathleen, tragically died during infancy.
Elsie met the love of her life at her church's youth group in 1937. They married in 1940 and lived in Maryland while Arnold served in the Army/Air Force during WWII. After the war he took a position at the newly opened Brookhaven National Laboratory and the family moved to Yaphank NY in 1947.
They raised their five children in Manorville NY. Elsie is survived by Darline (Fred) Peipman, Bryan, Faith (Bob) Monzeglio, Hope (Walter) Greenberg and Randy. Arnold died in 2003.
In addition to children and their spouses, Elsie bid adieu to 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
All of the children remember a stern but loving mother who could quote a Bible verse as easily as she could bake a cake. Her daughters' suitors recall a gimlet-eyed interrogator who was fiercely protective. However, once married into the family they were welcomed with open arms.
Elsie was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Patchogue NY. She served as a Sunday School teacher for many years especially enjoying teaching the "little ones". She served as the treasurer for the South Manor School District during the 1960's and 1970's.
Elsie Mae was a grand family matriarch who will be missed by all who knew her. Her trademarks of kindness and thoughtfulness will be long remembered.
