PLATTSBURGH – Elva Joy Ferris, 89, of Fort Brown Drive, passed away on April 3, 2021 at her home with family by her side.  She was born in Saranac Lake on March 12, 1932 the daughter of Salvatore and Hilda (Brown) Purpura.  Elva married William Ferris Sr., at St. Peter and Paul Church in Canajoharie in 1960. They raised their family in St. Johnsville, NY and were active members of their community.  Elva was a teacher at St. Johnsville Central School before retiring in 1988.  She was an active member of St. Patrick's Church.  In 2010 she and her husband moved to Plattsburgh.  William passed away in 2012.

Survivors include four sons, William and Kristen (David, Anna, Joshua, Jack) of Plattsburgh, Stephen of Punta Gorda, FL, Robert and Deborah (Zachary, Kristina/Patrick- Jet, Dash) of Watertown, Michael and Cassandra (Olivia, Isabella Baldwin) of Hermosa Beach, and brother-in-law, John Boncaro.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and cherished friends. Elva was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, William Ferris Sr, grandson, Matthew Ferris, sisters and brothers-in law Nina and Frank Mulhern, Elsie and Otha Baker, Susan Boncaro, and brother Lawrence Purpura.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2021 from 11:00 to 12:00 at Enea Funeral Home, 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, NY, followed by a funeral service at the Funeral Home, with burial in the Municipal Cemetery.

Donations may be made to Margaret Reaney Memorial Library, St. Johnsville, as Elva was an avid reader.
