Obituary

Emma Sue Elias passed away peacefully on Oct. 8, 2021. She was born in Manhattan in 1924 to Richard and Walburga Doering.
Sue had a vibrant and humorous spirit, never losing her jokes nor her sweet tooth into her 98th year of life. She always took a "helpful" lick of her grandchildren's ice cream so it wouldn't drip down the cone. Sue is survived by her children, Kristine and Richard, five grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren, the youngest of whom is named Emma Sue after her.
Sue's humor was balanced with a sharp intellect and committed work ethic: she was the head nurse at Roosevelt Hospital in Manhattan. She returned to college in her forties, graduating with a 4.0 and a degree in Economics. In her retirement, Sue traveled the world with her husband George; she enjoyed learning about other cultures, making friends, and a good mystery novel.
Sue was predeceased by her husband George, with whom she spent over 70 years of marriage. Their love thrived through decades and between cherished homes: Manhattan, N.Y.; Lincoln Park, N.J.; St. Petersburg, Fla.; and Chazy Lake, N.Y. Sue and George hosted their children and grandchildren for vacations at their St. Petersburg home and summers at their Chazy Lake house. Sue will live in our memories walking down Fort DeSoto beach in her sun hat or singing while hanging clothes on the line, Chazy Lake waves lapping in harmony.
