PLATTSBURGH – Evelyn Sanger, 91, passed away February 8, 2024, casting off the bonds of dementia and finding peace. Her daughters were at her side.

Evelyn lived life enthusiastically. She was, first and foremost, an educator, teaching hundreds of first graders to read and write, mentoring colleagues, and guiding her daughters in the art of living.

When faced with a challenge or setback, her advice was to, "Think of it as an adventure." And she made her entire life an adventure. She was a serial crafter, always learning a new skill, mastering it, and moving on to learn more. She was independent, spending 40 years a widow but traveling the world and making friends. She followed her heart and was a bit impulsive.

She had a can-do approach to life with many creative hobbies, traveling, blaring her operas at top volume, and lavishing her family with support, advice, and good sense. Everything her daughters have accomplished, and become, they attribute to her.

She was born on April 7, 1932, daughter of William and Lydia (Bowen) Wright.

Evelyn worked her full teaching career at Beekmantown Central School.

She had the good sense to marry two excellent men. Her first husband was Donald Sanger, whom she wed in August of 1953. Many years after Don's death, she married John Bauman in August of 2011.

Survivors include daughter Kerry Sanger and her husband, Donald Turner, daughter Kathy Davenport, and granddaughter, Emily Davenport.

Evelyn was predeceased by her first husband, Donald Sanger; second husband, John Bauman; and brother, William Wright, Jr.

The family wishes to acknowledge the care Evelyn received at Pine Harbour and, most recently, at Meadowbrook. The staff at the latter, and especially on Oakwoods, were wonderful to Evelyn and to the family.
