Evelyn M. Sullivan passed away at her home in Port Kent, NY on Monday, May 29, 2023 after a short illness. She was 104 years old. Evelyn was born in Oneida Castle, NY on November 6, 1918 to Louis A and Vivian J Morgan (Green). She was raised on her father's dairy farm, attended Oneida Castle Elementary School and graduated from Oneida High School as Salutatorian. Evelyn graduated from Albany State Teacher's College in 1940 and taught Social Studies, Latin and French at Grand Gorge High School.
In 1946 Evelyn married Charles M. Sullivan of Peru, NY. They lived in Port Kent, Keeseville, Plattsburgh and Saratoga Springs. Evelyn taught Special Education at Saratoga BOCES and was a bookkeeper for her husband's lumber company.
Evelyn loved history, nature (especially birds) and traveling. She and her sister/best friend, Dorie, had many adventures traveling the United States and Europe together.
For more than 65 years Evelyn enjoyed summers at Trembleau on Lake Champlain in the cabin her husband built.
Evelyn was a woman of tender heart and generous spirit. She had high moral standards and was a champion of the underdog. She loved books, was an avid reader and was proud of the Little Free Library erected in her honor for the Trembleau community to enjoy.
Evelyn is predeceased by her parents, husband, her brother A. Bradford Morgan and his wife Marjorie, her sister Doris M. Butler and her Sullivan family sisters/brothers in law Mike and Barb Sullivan, Fran and Virginia Sullivan, Edgar and Margaret Buckley, Bill and Betty Sullivan, Johnny and Mary Neyenhouse, Jack and Grace Sullivan and Rita Sullivan.
Surviving Evelyn are her children, Gary Sullivan (LouAnn Garafalo), Patricia Sullivan (Gordon MacDonald), Nancy Thompson (Michael), 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Evelyn's dedicated and wonderful caregivers who made it possible for Evie to remain at home. Thank you Elizabeth, Alexis, Curdie, Ruby, Joan, Nancy, Marion, Morgan and Carissa.
There will be no calling hours or service. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in St. Augustine's Cemetery Peru, NY.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Keeseville Free Library. 1721 Front Street. Keeseville, NY. 12944. Arrangements have been entrusted to the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh, NY.
