MERRILL – Gary E. Martin, 72, of State Route 374, passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at UVM Hospital in Burlington, VT.

He was born in Plattsburgh on November 21, 1946 the son of Earl and Grace (Tacey) Martin.

Gary served for two years in the United States Army.

He married the former Helen Moore on June 26, 1966 in Plattsburgh.

Gary retired as Deputy Sheriff from the Clinton County Sheriff's Department after 32 years of service.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Helen Martin of Merrill; son, Gary Martin and his wife, Sandy of Lyon Mountain; daughter, Marnie Merritt of Chateaugay; sister, Joyce Lachapelle and her husband, Leo of Sherburne, NY; grandchildren, Avery and Camden Martin, John Merritt, Gracelynn Merritt and Helen Merritt and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Carl Martin, and Tyrone "Buzzy" Martin, sisters, Wanda Papineau, June Squires and Rita Baker.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
