Obituary

Gaylord D. Duval, 77 years old of Houston, Texas passed at Memorial Herman South West Hospital from complications associated with COVID-19 on July 5, 2020.  Gaylord was born in Chateaugay, NY to Gaylord Phillip and Angella Selina (Thibeault) Duval. He graduated from Peru Central School and Champlain Valley School of Nursing.  He started his nursing career in Plattsburgh, N.Y. at CVPH Medical Center (known today as UVM Health Network) and was later employed at Park Plaza Houston, T.X. until he retired in 1995.

He enjoyed his outdoor flower gardens, favoring roses and was often asked to make floral arrangements for various celebrations.  Gaylord also spent many years fine tuning his cooking skills and collecting antiques.  He was an active member of his church and choir and Cantor at St. Benedict the Abbot Catholic Church in Houston, T.X., working behind the scenes of many church events.  Surviving members of his family include his children, G. Donald Duval (Jamie), Saranac, N.Y.; Rhonda Curtis (David), White River Junction, V.T.; Gregg Duval, Morrisonville, N.Y.; two sisters, Nina Coolidge and Jean Bouchard (Anthony); eight grandchildren; Jennifer LaPorte, Amber Duval, Corey Duval, Garrett Lyon (Ellen), Alex and Carson Duval, Jeff Curtis and Samantha Small; five great grandchildren; Kyle LaPorte, Clara Lyon, Morgan and Tuck Curtis and Colton Small as well as several nieces and nephews.  Gaylord spent many years of his life in Houston, Texas and has an extended family the Valadez of Houston, T.X.; Juanita, Elizabeth, Angel, Andrew and Brianna, Anjelah and Joziah.  Gaylord was predeceased by his parents, Gaylord and Angella Duval and one brother-in-law, John A. Coolidge.  Gaylord's smile and infectious laugh will be missed.  May his loving memory last forever in the hearts of his family and friends.  Gaylord had grand plans for his funeral.  It breaks the hearts of those he left behind not to be able to honor those wishes due to the state of our country, but one small gesture to honor Gaylord's memory would be for the women attending the service to wear their fanciest hat.  That would have Gaylord smiling down on us.

There will be no calling hours however, the family invites you to join as they come together to celebrate his life and pay tribute to his memory.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, September 25, 2020 at 1:00 P.M., St. Alexander's Church, Morrisonville, N.Y., for live stream of service go to St. Alexander's Church Facebook page.
