Obituary

PLATTSBURGH- Georg Bayer, 89, of Marie Drive, Cliff Haven, passed away Friday, October 7, 2022 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

Georg was born in Hungary, son to Stefan Bayer and Rosa Moeglich where they owned and operated a grain mill. The family including his brother Antoine and sister Katarina moved to Germany where Georg spent most of his youth. In his early twenties Georg left Germany and moved to Montreal, Canada. Upon his quest for a new life, he found employment with a European Lighting Co. Schonbek Worldwide Lighting. The Company closed its doors in Canada and relocated to the U.S. Plattsburgh, NY in the early seventies which then became his permanent residency. Schonbek crystal chandeliers hang in establishments as diverse as the White House, Buckingham Palace and prestigious hotels in Las Vegas. Amidst his title of Senior Research & Development Engineer, he also holds over twenty-five patents for his designs. His passion was his work, traveling to Milan, Italy for new ideas and inspirations.

Along with his vocation Georg enjoyed many genres of music (classical being his favorite) nature, landscaping, photography, building custom stereo speakers, and go carts. He also played the trumpet in a band in the early 60's. and was an avid bowler. He loved to play soccer and couched several youth teams, and also had the opportunity to play soccer once with Rod Stewart.

Left to cherish his memory, are his wife Lisa (Schon) Bayer, children Evelyn (Hunsperger) Michael Bayer, and his grandchildren Alexander and Bradley.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
