Obituary

WEST CHAZY – Gerald "Jerry" M. Seguin, Jr., 68, of West Chazy, passed away November 15, 2020 after a brave and valiant fight with pancreatic cancer with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Plattsburgh on January 2, 1952, son of Gerald and Mamie (King) Seguin, Sr.

Jerry attended Altona Central School where he was valedictorian and later went on to graduate from SUNY Buffalo and then SUNY Plattsburgh.

He spent over 40 years teaching his passion for art to many students at Northern Adirondack Central School and he believed everyday was an art adventure. Post 'retirement' Jerry continued to teach and provide workshops locally pursuing his passion. His contributions to the Government Center mural and the Plattsburgh Public Library mural projects will continue to be a source of joy for all to remember and leaves a legacy. He liked to paint and do printmaking, but Jerry had a special affection for pottery and working with clay, which he enjoyed sharing with others.

Jerry loved the North Country and was inspired by its great outdoors, its people, and its natural wonders. In his words, "There is no better time spent than hiking the Adirondacks, canoeing on its lakes or skiing its trails." Jerry lived his life close to the earth. He was often found in his expansive garden then sharing the fruits of his labor with others.

Jerry loved to travel and see his friends and family, and be inspired by the sights and culture of different places. One of his favorite destinations was Colorado and the four corners area where he enjoyed hiking, floating down the rivers, and doing pottery. He often adventured to South Carolina, Arizona and Florida where he enjoyed biking, kayaking, and golfing with his family and never missed a National Park or State welcome center to learn more about an area.

He often spoke of his pottery tour in Korea where he was able to teach and learn simultaneously. To the local children he was 'the bird whistle guy'. To him the best part of the trip was the friends he made.

Jerry was actively involved with the Lyons Club, the NYS Art Teachers Association, and the Strand Center For The Arts.

Jerry leaves his loving companion, Kim Bailey of Plattsburgh; son, William Seguin of New York, NY; daughters, Erin Seguin Romano of Westfield, NJ and Sarah (Michael) Bena of Plymouth, MA; stepmother, Susan Seguin of Homosassa, FL, sisters, Geraldine (Dave) Somers and Jane Ayres (Craig) Waldron, both of Punta Gorda, FL; and niece and nephew, Jennifer Fox and Edward Orr. Jerry will also be fondly remembered by his four grandchildren; Max and Luke Romano, Zoe Seguin and Remy Bena who will miss making character pancakes with their Grandpa/Grandpere.

Jerry was predeceased by his parents, sister Joyce Seguin, nephew Christopher J. Orr and faithful dog Charlie.
