Obituary

Gerald A. Putnam, 89, of Butternut Ridge Road and a longtime resident of Plattsburgh, passed away Wednesday morning, May 8, 2019, at Massena Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Gerald was born July 16, 1929, in Peru, N.Y., the son of the late Floyd and Edna Mae (Boyd) Putnam. He attended and graduated from local schools before attending Plattsburgh Business Institute where he graduated. On Oct. 2, 1949, he married Mollie E. Long at the First Baptist Church in Plattsburgh. Mollie predeceased him on July 15, 2012.
Gerald was a third-generation family business owner. He continued in the footsteps of his family at Putnam's as they owned a restaurant, real estate cabins, RV trailer sales and propane company throughout the years. Gerald enjoyed collecting coins, reading, following the stock market, visits to the casinos, and he loved horses. He continuously followed the news throughout the country and would love a good discussion about world events. After his retirement, he and his late wife, Mollie, enjoyed traveling and wintered in Arizona for many years.
Gerald is survived by his children, Lane Putnam of Plattsburgh, Lana Putnam (Mark Hawkins) of Potsdam and Lynn (Todd) Miller of West Chazy and his grandchildren, Chantel Dumont, Joshua (Michelle)Putnam, Aaron David Lafountain (Stacey Rodriquez), and April (Scott) Davis, Bradley Miller, Logan Miller; his great-grandchildren, Cameron Putnam, Cora Putnam, Ayanna Lafountain, Lexie Duquette, Corey Supernaw, Jacob Davis, and Samuel Davis; and three great-great-grandchildren, Alia Rose Whittington-Davis, Hunter Scott Whittington-Davis, and Theodor Matthew Davis.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by two grandchildren, Jeremy and Erica Putnam.
Friends may call Saturday, May 18, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home, 69 Court Street, Plattsburgh, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Rouses Point.
