CADYVILLE – Gertrude Jordan, 94, of Route 374, passed away on October 22, 2026 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law under the care of Hospice of the North Country.
Gert was born on June 1, 1932, the daughter of Alphia and Sabina (Smart) Carter. She had a wonderful childhood growing up on TB Hill (Upper Emmons Street) in Dannemora.
Gert graduated from Dannemora High School and then went to work at Plattsburgh State University as a secretary. She then went to work at Clinton Correctional Facility as a stenographer until her retirement in 1987. Gert wanted to spend more time with her grandchildren, and her father who was living with her and Don, until his passing.
Gert married Donald Jordan on December 1, 1956 and they had two children, Jeff (Joe Miller) and Julie (Nelson Tamer). Gert loved her family and friends beyond words and kept everyone safe with her prayers. Her faith was very important to her and she had many lists of people that she prayed for everyday.
Gert is survived by her daughter, Julie Tamer and her husband, Nelson, and their sons, Jason (Jackie) Tamer and Nick Tamer; great-grandson, Oliver and great-granddaughters, Emily, Alissa, and Olivia.
She is also survived by her son Jeff’s partner Joe, who helped her (and the entire family) with the tremendous loss of her son.
Gert’s family also includes her niece, Shelley Jordan Butterfield and husband Bob; great-nieces, Dorothy and Samantha; great-nephews, Corey and Jordan; great-great-nephew, Gabrien; great-great-nieces, Willow and Ella; as well as her pen pal Wanda, who sent her many notes and cards that always brightened her day; and her dear friend (and the best boss she ever had), Joy, who could always make her smile.
Gert also leaves behind her loving Tamer family that became her own. After losing so many loved ones in her life, they have been an amazing blessing.
Last, but not least, her church family. It is too numerous to list, but you know who you are and how much she loved you all (especially Lily). Gert was also blessed to know Father Scott, who brought the Bishop to meet her, and Father Chris Looby, who was there for her and the family when they really needed him.
Gert was predeceased by her parents; loving husband, Donald; son, Jeff; brother, Robert; sister, Dorothy; nieces, Patty and Colleen, and nephew, Mike McCorry. She had a special bond with each and every one of them.
Gert was greatly cared for by Hospice, HCR and her caregivers, Tina and Caitlin.
She truly looked forward to your visits.
