He was a member of the International Paper Workers Union, retiring in 1998 after 41 years with Georgia Pacific.

He looked forward each winter to the beach and his friends at Island Vista, enjoying walking the beach, breakfasting on the ocean front balcony, dinners out and happy hours at local restaurants with "the gang".
Hugh is survived by his wife of 52 years Brenda, who he married on August 30, 1969 at St. Enfant Church in Montreal. He is also survived by his son, Patrick (Rebecca) O'Neil of Plattsburgh; his daughter, Bridget (Blake) O'Neil Craddock of Bullock, NC; his grandchildren, Ellie O'Neil, Kailen Craddock, Caroline Craddock, Kennedy O'Neil, and Makenna O'Neil; and several nieces and nephews.
Hugh was predeceased by his brother, James "Jim" O'Neil.
The family wishes to extend a thank you to Hospice of the North Country and Carla Hausrath, and also to Hugh's caregivers, Lauren Lemos, Andrea Osborne, and Tina Freeman.
A loving thank you to Rebeca O'Neil for her unwavering, loving presence to help Hugh with dinner and bedtime daily.
