Obituary

PLATTSBURGH – . James C. McGraw died on November 15, 2019 at CVPH Medical Center. He was born in Martins Ferry, OH on March 20, 1928, son of William Ralph McGraw and Lois Carmichael McGraw.  Jim was in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953, serving in Korea.  He received the AB degree with a Chemistry-Zoology major from Oberlin College, and Masters and PhD degrees in Zoology from Ohio State University.  In 1951, Jim married Patricia Cooley, an Oberlin classmate.  Dr. McGraw was a member of the Biology Department of SUNY Plattsburgh for 27 years, teaching courses in General Biology, Introductory Physiology, Invertebrate Zoology and Parasitology.  His research interests concerned roundworms carried by various host species.  Some of his special interests were camping with his family, photography, sailing, and travel.  He felt fortunate to live in an ideal location for his three sons to begin their lives.  Survivors include Patricia, his wife of 68 years, three sons and their families: David and his wife Jody of Williston, VT, James and his wife Ann of Morgantown, WV, and Kevin and his wife Laurie of Boulder, CO.  His grandchildren are Erin Piotrowski, Kara Douglas, Ian, Trevor, Caitlin, Colin, and Chelsea McGraw.  He has eight great grandchildren; Otis, Liya, Reiya, Bodhi, Avalee, Stella, Blake and Shyanne.  James will be buried in a family plot at Union Cemetery in St. Clairsville, OH. Donations in his memory may be made to the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center, CVPH, Plattsburgh, NY, 12901; https://www.cvph.org/Foundation/Donate-Now
