Morris Jr.
January 19, 1935 – October 13, 2022
James R. Morris, Jr, 87, of Plattsburgh, NY passed away on October 13, 2022, with family by his side during his brief illness.
He was born in Orange, NJ on January 19, 1935, the son of James R and Pearl L (Markwith) Morris. He attended schools in East Orange, Livingston, and Caldwell, NJ.
He was the husband of the late Carolyn B. (Smith) Morris. He met the love of his life Carolyn Smith in Plattsburgh, and they were married for almost 60 years.
Master Sargent Morris enlisted in the Air Force in 1955 and served 20 years as a photographer. He served at Plattsburgh, England, Germany, South Carolina, Colorado, Thailand (Vietnam), and California before retiring in Plattsburgh. He was honored to participate in North Country Honor Flight events.
Jim managed the photo departments at Montgomery Ward and the PAFB Exchange. Later he drove a school bus for Saranac Central Schools. He swapped cars for several local car dealerships.
Jim was a president of the Champlain Valley Model Railroad Club and was a life-long model railroader after receiving his first train set at age three. Other hobbies included bowling, gardening, photography & videography, and weather.
He is predeceased by his parents, his wife, and Uncle Roy & Aunt Helen (Johnson) Markwith.
Survivors include his three children, Jeffrey (Wanda) Morris of Topsham, Maine, Timothy (Starr) Morris of Morrisonville, and Deborah Morris of East Syracuse, NY; six grandchildren, TJ, Dustin, Jimmy, Paul, Kim, Lexi; three great-grandsons, Kai, Lucien, and Viktor; cousins Steve (Pam) Markwith of Warren, ME, and Peter (Shirley) Markwith of Manchester, NH and Paula Morris of Mayer, AZ.
Visitation will be held Saturday, October 22, 2022 from 4:00 to 5:00 pm at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.
A Celebration of life will follow at 5:00 pm in the funeral home chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to North Country Honor Flight, Saranac United Methodist Church or Elmore SPCA in Peru, NY. Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of the R.W. Walker Funeral Home 69 Court Street, Plattsburgh, NY.
