Obituary

PLATTSBURGH – James E. O'Connell, 88, passed away, May 30, 2020.

He was born in Cadyville on May 15, 1932, son of James and Margaret (Lord) O'Connell.

James married the former Mavourneen Yerry on June 16, 1962 at St. Patrick's Church in Glen Cove Long Island.

He was a corrections officer for over 33 years, retiring in 1989 from Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora.

James served in the United States Navy from 1951-1955 and was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 20 in Plattsburgh. He was also very active in the Plattsburgh Little League for many years, was inducted into the PHS Hall of Fame, and during his younger years, played semipro baseball for the Plattsburgh Falcons.

James enjoyed going bowling and spending time on the golf course, but nothing was more important than his beloved Yankees. His main requirement to gain his friendship was you had to be a Yankee Fan yourself!
