Obituary

CHAZY – Janice D. Davis, 81, of North Farm Road, passed away, April 7, 2021 with her family by her side.

She was born in Malone on June 19, 1939, the daughter of Martin and Doris (Baxter) Drown.

Jan graduated from Ellenburg Central School in 1956 and then attended Cortland State College. She finished her education at Plattsburgh State, graduating in 1961 with a B.S. degree in Nursing.

After graduation, Jan taught in several local schools, and then joined Dr. George Clark's Medical Practice in Chazy. She then became a Postal Clerk at the Chazy Post Office, working there for 32 years. After retiring from the postal service,  Jan became Treasurer at Chazy Central Rural School, and worked there until retiring once again in July of 2019.

Jan was dedicated to community service, and was involved in many organizations. She was a trustee of the Chazy Presbyterian Church, a member of the church's Womens' Group, and a member of the Chazy Friends of the Library. She served on the Chazy School Board, and was a founding member of the Chazy Athletic Association.

Jan also had a passion for sports. She played first base for many years with the Chazy Women's Softball Team, before retiring at age 51. She was an avid fan of her beloved New York Yankees, and especially enjoyed supporting Chazy Eagles sporting events.

Survivors include: son Dan Davis and his wife Julie Parker; daughter Karen Davis; siblings Jean Drown, Jane Way, and M. David Drown; four grandchildren, Marrianne (Tradd) Cooper, Benikah Davis, Hannah Latour, and Max Davis;  and two great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Lucas Davenport.

Jan was predeceased by her parents, her husband Maxwell Davis, her daughter Susan, and Sue's husband Scott Latour.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2021 from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. The family will have a private funeral service, but all are invited to a public memorial gathering at Vesco's Vineyard in West Chazy on Sunday, April 11 at 2PM.

Burial will take place at a later date in Riverview Cemetery in Chazy.

Donations may be made to the Chazy Athletic Association, CCRS Education Foundation, Chazy Volunteer Fire Department, Chazy Presbyterian Church, or the Chazy Lions Club.
