Jean Isabel
Yakey
September 22, 1933 – December 6, 2025
Jean I. Yakey, 92, Champlain, passed away on December 6, 2025.
She was born on September 22, 1933, in Clarenceville, Quebec, the daughter of Ross and Myrtle Clark.
Jean attended McDonald College in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, where she earned a diploma in the
domestic sciences. Following college, she hitchhiked across Canada and worked at the Banff Hotel in Alberta. Upon returning to Clarenceville, she met and married her husband, Norbert, on July 4, 1958. Jean held a multitude of jobs throughout her life, but two brought her particular joy: serving as the caretaker of Glenwood Cemetery, which fed her love of the outdoors, and sewing elaborate vestments for priests, which showcased her skill as a seamstress.
She was a member of Three Steeples United Methodist Church, Ducks Unlimited, Friends of NRA, and the Glenwood Cemetery Association. She was honored with the Ducks Unlimited Distinguished Service Award and the Appreciation for Service and Commitment Award from the North Country Tri-County Friends of NRA Committee.
In retirement, Jean and Norbert traveled extensively throughout the United States. A highlight of their travels abroad was tea at Buckingham Palace.
Jean was predeceased by her parents; her in-laws, Cleora and Clarence Walker; her husband, Norbert; her son, Greg; her brother, Erle Clark; her sister-in-law, Marjorie Clark; her brothers-in-law, Richard Yakey and Scott Yakey; and her nephew, Scott Yakey.
She is survived by her daughter, Cara Yakey; her son-in-law, Joe Chirichello; her grandson, Lucas Roffman; her brother-in-law, Brian Yakey, and his wife, Elaine; her sister-in-law, Nancy Yakey; and many nieces and nephews across the United States and Canada.
Jean's proudest accomplishments were being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Special thanks to her niece Jan Yakey and her nephew Peter (Laura Lee) Clark whose frequent visits over these past several months brought her comfort and joy.
A memorial service will be held in the spring at R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.
