LYON MOUNTAIN, NY--- Jeffrey Richard Benjamin, 57, of Phillips Court, passed away Friday, August 27, 2010 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Plattsburgh, NY on July 7, 1953, the son of Cletus and Valeda (Charland) Benjamin. Jeff graduated from Northern Adirondack Central School and later attended Clinton Community College. He then received his Criminal Justice Degree from Plattsburgh State University. Jeff was employed by the Clinton County Sheriffs Department, The Division of Youth, and most recently as a Substance Abuse Counselor at the Chateaugay Correctional Facility. He was very athletic through high school and college, and continued to play various sports and also coached many different teams. All through his life Jeff was a dedicated Yankees Fan. Survivors include one son, Jeffrey R. Benjamin, II and his companion Tara Woodward of Plattsburgh; one daughter, Kelli Benjamin of Lyon Mountain; two grandchildren, Jeffrey R. Benjamin, III and Jaidin Harley Hicks; one sister, Mary Krakowski and her companion Gary Butler of Plattsburgh; one sister-in-law, Peggy Benjamin of Embarrass, MN; two nieces, Beth Shaughnessy, her husband Michael and their son Patrick of Plattsburgh, and Tammy Shastri, her husband Sam and their son Devin of Palm Bay, FL; one nephew, Charlie Benjamin of Washington, DC; his beloved Dalmation Cruise; and several special cousins, aunts and uncles. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, August 29, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home, 69 Court Street, Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday in St. Peters Church in Plattsburgh at 1:30 p.m. Donations in his memory may be made to The Fitzpatrick Cancer Center or to the R5 Oncology Unit at the CVPH Medical Center.
