Joan Charland, 85, of Hill Street, Keeseville, passed away February 9, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Paterson, NJ on March 5, 1937 the daughter of William and Lillian (Scully) Thomas.

Joan grew up in New Jersey and later moved to Lyon Mountain. She first married Brian Sumpter and later Leo "Blueberry" Charland. Leo and Joan took care of St. Bernard's Cemetery for many years. She later worked and retired from CVPH. Joan also lived at 20 Lynn Ave with James Sayah, Sr. for many years. There, she babysat for several kids and a set of triplets.

Survivors include her children, Darlene Charland, Heather (Charlie) Charland, Duane (Jenny) Charland, Diane (Dale) Duprey, Charles Sumpter; step-daughter, Rose (Norman) Burch; brother, William (Cathy) Thomas; sister, Peggy Bryan; sister-in-law, Betty Charland; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Joan was predeceased by an infant son, John; son, Raymond Charland; step-son, Ralph; and her siblings.

There will be no public services. Joan will be entombed with her husband in the Town of Ellenburg Mausoleum.
