HOPEWELL JUNCTION – John "Jack" Carter, 70, formerly of Plattsburgh, died at his home April 28, 2019, following a battle with cancer.
He was born in Plattsburgh on November 11, 1948 the son of the Harold and Mary (Trombly) Carter. Jack was a graduate of Beekmantown Central School. He was a Marine Veteran, serving in the Vietnam War, receiving the Combat Action Ribbon, along with several other medals. Jack was a correction officer in Clinton Correctional Facility for many years until transferring to Green Haven Correctional Facility, where he retired in 2016.
Survivors include his children, Alexandra and Grayson; his siblings, Jill Champagne, James Carter, Pam and Bob Hayward, Beth and Steve Ducatte, Sally and Danny Sullivan, Timothy and Mary Anne Carter; several nieces, nephews and close friends, especially Mary Kelly and her family.
Jack was predeceased by his parents and brother-in-law Bobby Champagne.
Calling hours will be held Thursday May 16, 2019 from 10 to 12pm at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home, with services to follow in the funeral home chapel. Burial will take place at Holy Angel's Cemetery, with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to Hospice or Charity of Choice.
