Obituary

PLATTSBURGH – John F. Mahoney, 90, formerly of Altona, passed away Monday, June 10, 2019 at Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility, with his daughter Sheila by his side.

He was born in Bronx, NY, on April 13, 1929, the son of Donal and Ellen (O'Sullivan) Mahoney. As a boy John remembers playing stickball in the streets of the Bronx, as he got older he enjoyed going to the Irish dances and that was where he met his wife Mary. They moved to the North Country and raised their family. John retired from the Plattsburgh Air Force Base in 1995. He loved Irish music and showed his talents, in the many different instruments he played. He was an avid Yankee Baseball fan and enjoyed talking to his great-grandson about the game.

John was a life time member of the 4thdegree Knights of Columbus in Rouse Point.

Survivors include a son, John J. Mahoney and his wife Susan of Ellenburg Center; three daughters, Ellen Murphy and her companion Michael Perry of Altona, Sheila Miller and her husband Gene Jr. of Altona, Noreen Mahoney of Florida; six grandchildren, Liam Mahoney, Dylan Mahoney, Amy Murphy-Moore, April Miller-Rodier, Adam Miller, Joey Trombley; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife Mary, brother Jeremiah and granddaughter Kathleen Trombley.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday June 12, 2019 at 11:00 am at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Burial will be follow in Holy Angels Cemetery in Altona.
